Conservation Effects Assessment Project
The Choptank River Watershed Project is part of USDA’s nationwide
Conservation Effects Assessment Project (CEAP). The Choptank study is a
multi-agency effort coordinated by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and
NRCS to quantify the environmental benefits of conservation practices
implemented on private lands. In-depth watershed-level studies have been
undertaken to determine nutrient reduction efficiencies of Best Management
Practices (BMPs) such as cover crops, riparian buffers, and water management in
drainage ditches. Additional studies will investigate the potential water
quality benefits associated with restoring wetlands.
