Monocacy Watershed

Farm in the Monocacy WatershedThe Monocacy River Watershed covers 742 square miles, including portions of Frederick, Carroll and Montgomery counties, Maryland. The CSP sign-up is limited to the Maryland portion of the watershed. The predominant land uses are cropland, forest and pasture. There are approximately 1400 farms in the watershed. The average farm size is 147 acres. Livestock operations are the primary agricultural activity, led by diary operations with lesser amounts of hog, poultry and beef. The Monocacy watershed is typical of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions of the United States where there are significant pressures placed on agriculture from urban and suburban centers.
