NRCS Maryland Seeking Proposals for Conservation Innovation GrantsMaryland Media Liaison: Annapolis, MD, June 23, 2009 --- The Natural Resources Conservation Service in Maryland is seeking proposals for Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) for fiscal year 2009. NRCS Maryland anticipates that $340,000 will be available to support this program. The CIG program is designed to stimulate the development and adoption of innovative conservation approaches and technologies. Applications are due by 4pm on July 24, 2009. "CIG enables NRCS to work with other pubic and private entities to accelerate transfer and adoption of promising technologies and conservation approaches to address some of the state's most pressing natural resource concerns," said Jon Hall, NRCS Maryland State Conservationist. There are two CIG categories available in FY 2009: Natural Resource Concerns Category and Technology Category. Applications are requested from eligible governmental or non-governmental organizations or individuals for competitive consideration of grant awards for projects lasting from one to three years. Information on the objectives for CIG projects, the eligibility criteria for projects, and application instructions are available at www.md.nrcs.usda.gov/programs/cig/cig.html.
