Maryland Media Liaison:

Annapolis, MD, March 31, 2009—NRCS Maryland announced that financial assistance is available for competitive grants to protect the nation's natural resources through the Cooperative Conservation Partnership Initiative (CCPI). NRCS has allocated funds for single state and multi-state projects that offer innovative approaches to working with socially disadvantaged, beginning or limited resource farmers and ranchers and help further enhance conservation outcomes on agricultural lands and private nonindustrial forest lands.

Proposals for state projects must be submitted to the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) State Conservationist by April 23. Maryland proposals should be submitted to NRCS Maryland State Conservationist, Attn: Mark Rose, Assistant State Conservationist for Programs, 339 Busch’s Frontage Road, Suite 301, Annapolis, MD 21409 or mark.rose@md.usda.gov . Partners wishing to submit multi-state projects must submit their proposals to the Chief, USDA-NRCS National Office in Washington, D.C. by April 23, 2009.

In addition, USDA is seeking comments on how CCPI can contribute toward new methods of renewable energy production and conservation, reduce the effects of climate change, and reduce net carbon and greenhouse gas emissions. Comments must be submitted by April 8, 2009.

Additional details about the CCPI Request for Proposals and public comment period can be viewed at http://www.gpoaccess.gov/fr/.
