NRCS Extends AWEP Application Deadline to April 1Maryland Media Liaison: Annapolis, MD, March 3, 2009 - The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Maryland announced that the application period for the Agricultural Water Enhancement Program (AWEP) has been extended to April 1, 2009. NRCS is extending the application period to add new ranking considerations to address energy conservation, renewable energy production, mitigating climate change and facilitating climate change adaptation, and carbon sequestration. AWEP is a new conservation program established in the 2008 Farm Bill to promote ground and surface water conservation and water quality improvement. Applicants who submitted proposals in time to meet the original deadline of March 2, 2009 may re-submit applications with modifications to the proposal by the new deadlines. Applicants who have already submitted are not required to re-submit, but may do so in order to address the new ranking considerations. AWEP project proposals should be submitted by March 25, 2009 to NRCS Maryland State Conservationist, Attn: ASCT for Programs, 339 Busch’s Frontage Road, Suite 301, Annapolis, Maryland 21409 or mark.rose@md.usda.gov. A duplicate proposal should be submitted by April 1, 2009 to NRCS Chief, Attn: Financial Assistance Programs Division, AWEP Proposals, Post Office Box 2890, Washington, DC 20013 or visit http://www.grants.gov/ for instructions on submitting an online proposal.
