Maryland Bulletin: 430-9-2
Subject: SOI - REQUESTING TECHNICAL SOIL SERVICES
Date: October 15, 2008

Purpose. To clarify the procedure to request technical soil services

Expiration Date. September 30, 2009.

Completing Fiscal Year 2009 soils workload commitments is a priority and will require a committed and focused effort by a limited number of soil scientists in the state.

All requests for Technical Soil Services are to be directed to the State Soil Scientist with a copy to the Assistant State Conservationist for Operations. The District Conservationist will provide a written request outlining the critical or non-critical determination and programmatic nature of the request. The request should be made at least 30 days prior to the requested service and include a detailed explanation of the services requested and the estimated time to accomplish these services. The request should indicate if the service is mission critical, a management initiative, or a critical investigation.

All requests for technical soil services assistance will be assigned and scheduled by the State Soil Scientist. All requests for soil scientist’s assistance will be considered based on the availability of soil scientist personnel and dynamics affecting essential soil science workload commitments and work progress.
