Subject: EOP - MARYLAND CIVIL RIGHTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE VACANCIES

Purpose. To recruit new members to the Civil Rights Advisory Committee

Expiration Date. September 30, 2009.

Action Required by June 19, 2009

Explanation.

The Maryland Civil Rights Advisory Committee is recruiting to fill the following positions:

  • Civil Rights Committee Chair
  • Civil Rights Committee Vice-Chair
  • Civil Rights Committee Secretary

The Maryland Civil Rights Advisory Committee is an advisory body to the State Conservationist (STC) which promotes and assists in meaningful and effective affirmative action consistent with the goals and objectives set forth by management. The Committee:

  • provides feedback on the performance of the civil rights program.
  • makes recommendations for improvement.
  • identifies emerging areas needing special attention by the STC and Management Team.
  • makes recommendations to the STC regarding policy, practices, and procedures as they affect civil rights state-wide.

The Maryland Civil Rights Advisory Committee is also recruiting to fill the following Special Emphasis Program Manager positions:

  • Disability/Veterans Emphasis Program Manager
  • American Indian/Alaska Native Emphasis Program

Special Emphasis Program Managers (SEPM) serve as members of the Maryland Civil Rights Advisory Committee.

  • Only NRCS employees may serve as SEPMs.
  • All NRCS employees are encouraged to apply.
  • This is a collateral duty position, which means you volunteer to perform these duties in addition to your normal duties.
  • Membership terms are for three (3) years.
  • Committee members attend quarterly meetings and promote/contribute to Committee activities.
  • SEPMs are expected to devote up to 20% of their time to SEPM duties.
  • The State Conservationist makes the final selection for the Committee.

The term for these appointments will begin October 1, 2009 through September 30, 2012, but selectee will serve on the committee for the remainder of FY2009.

If you are interested in serving, please fill out the attached form. Supervisory approval is required. Fax your completed forms to Lydia Donovan at 410-757-6504 by June 19, 2009. All requests will be forwarded to the Civil Rights Advisory Committee for consideration.
