Purpose. To request nominations for the 2008 Conservation
Partnership Civil Rights and Workforce Diversity Award.

Explanation.
The Maryland Civil Rights Advisory Committee with representatives from the
United States Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service
(USDA NRCS), Maryland Association of Soil Conservation Districts (MASCD),
Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA), and the University of Maryland
Cooperative Extension developed and established the formation of an award for
civil rights and workforce diversity. To show commitment for this effort, the
conservation partnership entered into a memorandum of understanding to promote
and support civil rights and workforce diversity award. Implementation begins in
the year 2009. The goal is to recognize an individual employee who had
significant contribution and have gone above and beyond duty, in the area of
civil rights and workforce diversity during the calendar year 2008 (January
through December 2008).
Nominations for the award may be submitted by any employee of the
participating agencies. A written narrative in 250 words or less, describing the
basis for nomination, is required. The contributions must have occurred within
the last calendar year. The nominations will be rated based on degree of
involvement beyond duties; innovation in program delivery that increased program
participation especially those of the under-served, minorities, women and
producers with disabilities; positive impact on the community or agency;
creative recruitment successful in attracting under-represented individuals;
successful methods to improve career advancement especially employees who are
minorities, women and individuals with disabilities; enhancing recruitment and
employee retention especially employees who are minorities, women and
individuals with disabilities; foster working environment with respect and value
diversity; outreach activities with community-based organizations successful in
attracting women, minorities and individuals with disabilities to the workforce;
progress in achieving special accommodations in the workplace; and the use of
technology to enhance capability and productivity of individuals with
disabilities. Supervisor concurrence is recommended when applicable. An
electronic nomination form or paper copies of the form may be used.

submitted to oliver.miranda@md.usda.gov by April 30, 2009. Paper copy of
nominations, sent through regular mail, must be post-marked April 30, 2009.
