Maryland Bulletin: 450-8-4
Subject: TCH - Review of Draft Conservation Practice Standards
Date: September 10, 2008

Action Required By: October 10, 2008

Purpose. To request comments on four draft conservation practice standards.

Expiration Date. September 30, 2008.

Explanation.

We periodically review and revise our Maryland conservation practice standards to maintain consistency with updated national standards. The following draft is an update of a previously issued Maryland standard:

  • Sinkhole and Sinkhole Area Treatment (Code 527) – Previously issued as a Maryland Interim Conservation Practice Standard (Code 725), this standard has recently been issued as a new national standard.

The following drafts are new standards for Maryland:

  • Firebreak (Code 394) - This practice consists of a permanent or temporary strip of bare or vegetated land to impede the spread of fire.
  • Restoration and Management of Rare or Declining Habitats (Code 643) - This practice is applicable for habitat restoration on sites that previously supported or currently support native declining, rare, threatened or endangered plants or animals.
  • Solid/Liquid Waste Separation Facility (Code 632) - This practice consists of a settling tank or basin to remove solids from liquid wastes.

An electronic copy of each standard will be available for downloading from the eFOTG through my.NRCS or http://www.nrcs.usda.gov/technical/efotg/. Select Maryland and select a county. The draft standards will be displayed in the main window under “What’s Recently Changed” and “Draft eFOTG.”
