MD.230.8.1, EOP - Outreach

Maryland Bulletin: 230-8-1
Subject: EOP - Outreach
Date: January 7, 2008

Action Required By: April 1, July 1, and October 1, 2008

Purpose. To provide information for Field Offices to document and report Outreach activities.

Expiration Date. September 30, 2008.

Explanation.  Outreach is incorporated into every aspect of how Maryland NRCS conducts business. The process of describing NRCS and Partner services to an individual or group is outreach. Outreach efforts are often targeted to identify customers that traditionally are not aware of our services or understand the many programs the agency offers. These underserved customers are typically farmers or landowners with limited resources, minority groups, women and the physically challenged. Underserved customers may also include organic producers, members of religious or ethnic groups, rural and urban communities, or those who may have production practices that are different from other farmers in an area.

Beginning the second quarter of Fiscal Year 2008 (January 1), field offices will provide a quarterly report to the State Office on the attached Outreach Documentation form. This will be used to track Outreach activities in the state. Use the form to record each event or activity where NRCS information is presented to individuals or groups. The attached FY08 first quarter report for Maryland Outreach Activities provides examples of reportable activities and actions. Negative reports are required by the response due dates.

Field offices will maintain a copy of the completed form and any supporting documentation under File Code 230. Only the completed form will need to be forwarded to the State Office. Field Offices may submit supporting documentation to the State Office if it can be utilized to develop news articles, fact sheets or success stories.
